Acquisitions info.:     Transferred to the Westborough Public Library from the Town Clerk’s Office, which retains official custody of the collection.

Custodial history:      This collection was among a group of historical records that were transferred from the Town Clerk’s Office vault to the Westborough Public Library during the renovation of Town Hall starting in 2013. The documents in the collection were originally housed in a wooden box labeled, “Tercentenary, 1930.”

Organizational History

The Tercentenary Committee was formed to organize Westborough’s participation in the state-wide celebration in 1930 of the 300th anniversary of the founding of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Program events took place on Friday and Saturday of August 15-16, 1930, along with a dedication of a boulder to John Oldham on that same Friday.

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of programs, correspondence, newspaper clippings, receipts, published materials distributed by the Massachusetts Bay Tercentenary Conference, and photographs of parade floats and marchers who took part in Westborough’s celebration.
