Scope and Content Note
The records in this collection cover every aspect family life in Westborough, from meager beginnings of the town to future innovative ideas and developments. The town contributed to the lifeblood of growth of our country. Individual people and families contributed to every aspect of research, industry, and commerce that helped make the United States great in the eyes of the world.
One figure standing out is Horace Abbott, who accepted the contract to build the Monitor, the first iron clad ship that played a significant part in winning the American Civil War for the Union. Another person was Eli Whitney, who invented the Cotton Gin. This machine created a major cotton economy in the south.
